Hello to my favorite family! I hope you have all had a fantastic week. I have survived yet another transfer. Oh my goodness, how time flies! I am still serving in the Fleming Park Ward and Little Blue River branch with Sister Thompson. Do you realize that half of my mission has been served in a singles branch? Heavenly Father definitely has a sense of humor. I've got to learn something here I think; 1 of 2 things. (1)I needed to have my fill of singles branches so I can go on boycotting them when I get home or (2)I needed to gain a testimony of the singles branches because (gulp) I have to join one when I get home. Shall we take a vote? I'm pretty sure it's the first option.
It has been a week of miracles! Sister Thompson and I have seen a lot of growth and progress this week. Not only in those we are teaching but in ourselves as well. The first miracle of teh week was being able to contact a less active member that we have been trying to meet for 12 weeks. We finally found her at home. She was super nice; let us in to share a message and everything.
Our next miracle came in Lake Tapawingo. Sister Thompson and I don't like knocking in Lake Tapawingo. It is a man-made lake that you can't see because there are houses around every inch of it. The residents are generally not real willing to listen to us... possibly not real humble. Kind of worldly. Kind of rich. Ya know? When we go there we have a specific list of people we are trying to contact. We go in, they aren't home, we leave. Well, we were there on Friday and were on our way out. As we walked passed a house I had the thought to go knock on that door. Ha! We don't knock in Lake Tapawingo! No, we should knock on that door. I don't wanna knock that door. As we got farther from the house I felt more and more awful and the thought kept coming. KNOCK ON THAT DOOR! Alright, alright! "Sister Thompson, we're knocking on that door." So we did... And we found Jeff! He was super nice, is agnostic, but took a copy of the Book of Mormon, said he would read it and let us know we could come back to follow up with him. How grateful I am that I listened to that prompting! We are going back to Jeff's on Friday; we'll see what happens.
Saturday night we received a call from Sister Adams in Far West. A friend of her daughters was interested in taking the discussions-like he wanted to start this weekend. WOW! We called him (Austin) to set something up. He said he wanted to learn about the church but didn't have his schedule so he'll call us back. That was yesterday afternoon. We haven't heard from him yet but we'll call him again if we don't hear from him soon.
We had TWO miracles yesterday. JACOB GOT BAPTIZED!! It was amazing! The first miracle came in the form of Brother Shelley (who was baptizing Jacob), he looked like death warmed over (I know I can be dramatic but this isn't an exaggeration) when he arrived at the church. A group of brethren gave him a blessing and he was able to baptize Jacob. The 2nd miracle was the baptism itself. I can't wait for you all to meet Jacob (I've invited his family to Utah next December
). His entire family is amazing but Jacob is the forerunner. His faith is amazing. He is such a great example to me. He is talking about going on a mission. He started seminary before becoming a member of the church. He knows what he should and shouldn't do and sticks with it. He has touched so many lives since he began coming to the Fleming Park Ward. I know our Heavenly Father has so much in store for him. I cannot wait to see what life brings him. As part of the baptism program we had the young men perform a musical number. They sang "Brightly Beams our Father's Mercy." All the young men thought they were going to be awful. So maybe they weren't the best singers but that wasn't what I was focused on when I listened to them. I was focused on the Priesthood and the unity of these young men. That they banded together for Jacob, to support him in this step. That they willingly got up in front of a large group of people to express their love for their Savior and this gospel through song. It was a wonderful experience for me. I am so grateful to be here in Fleming Park. To be a part of the conversion for the Curless family. To see 3 different wards work together to support these new members of the gospel. Our goal last night was to fill the chapel for this baptism. We met that goal. Sister Shelley stopped counting at 100 people. I had numerous people tell me last night that they had never seen a baptism that large for one person. Funny, neither had I.
This gospel is true. Our Heavenly Father loves and cares for each one of us. He knows where He needs us to be and He will provide a way to get us there. He knows our divine potential and is constantly prodding us in the right direction to make sure we get there. I know the Book of Mormon is the word of God; the gospel in it's fulness. I know our family will be forever. I am so grateful to know that I have each of you for always. I couldn't do so well without my support system. Thank you. I love you. Our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love you. Stay strong.
LOVE YOU!
